It is safe to say it is dead today since there are no new games made for PS2 except you count some new football games. No offense intended for fans of football games but I just no big fan of such games though I do love real football matches like EPL, La Liga, World Cup, EURO, Asian Cup, etc.
The last game that isn't a football one made for PS2(at least for me) is SD Gundam Generation Wars which came out in Summer 2009. Though not legally available outside Japan, I already beat this game 4 times and probably fifth time soon. Yes I still playing them and making new mobile suits is still addictive to me. The last non-football game that legally available outside Japan is Persona 4 which came out in December 2008 although I only played it in late 2009 and early 2010. I already beat it 5 times and I still fail to defeat Margaret.
As a PS2 owner, buying PS3 or XBOX 360 is the best choice but those are too expensive and they also need HD TVs which I also don't have.
