Over a year ago I watched a documentary presented by Prof. Michio Kaku called Visions of the Future". One of the topics he talks about is digital fabrication which in short would be a device that can make anything from particles up. None of us might live to see such technology if it does become possible, but the consequences of it gained my attention.
Recently I stumbled across a term related to the exact subject, post scarcity.
The idea that we might no longer need an economy, physical objects no longer holding value and potentially no poverty at all is staggering. Working is part of life, we all need to earn a living otherwise we wouldn't be able to afford food, shelter, transport and all other costs of living today.
However in a world where everyone can have a comfortable life by todays standard. What would we have to work for?
