I've seen plenty of series where one of the main characters happens to be a demon, but they usually have some InuYasha-esque story behind them where "nobody understood them," or there was some kind of "misunderstanding," or they're "not really a bad guy" (such as in Chrono Crusade).
I'd like to see something with a demon that is legitimately a real nasty guy. The sort of guy who, were he to travel with a group, would only refrain from killing everyone around him because he was either bored (rather like Q visiting the Enterprise), his present situation made it more advantageous for him to keep them alive, or he just wasn't powerful enough that he would be assured victory should he decide to turn on them. Essentially, just a selfish jerk who is only interested in doing what's best for him. Whether or not he "changes" by the end doesn't really matter, just so long as he starts off legitimately selfish and nasty.
The only example I can really think of is Tora from "Ushio and Tora," a series which I thought was awesome, partly because it was refreshing to watch something with characters who didn't have long, drawn out sob-stories (I haven't read the manga, so I can't say if this is accurate for that as well, so I'm just using the anime as the example).
I realize there probably aren't too many shows like this, since people usually like there to be some sort of point they can sympathize with about the protagonists, so don't worry about recommending a "good" series. I'll take just about anything. Can be anime or manga, too.
