Hey guys, I really want to upgrade my memory from 2 GB to 4 GB, but I'm worried about compability, so I was wondering if I could get some help. I will try to list as many system info as I can.
Windows Vista Home Basic Service Pack 2
System: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ 2.30 GHz
Type: 32-bit Operating System
HP 2048 MB/PC2-6400
MB1 1024 MB/DDR2 SDRAM DIMMS
MB2 1024 MB/DDR2 SDRAM
Bios 5.13
CorVer. 6.0
Model #a6400z
Product #KT606AV-ABA
Build IP 82NAv3PcA2
So based on that info, I came across this product which I think might be compatible. What I don't know is:
-Can my system support 4 GB? I couldn't find max RAM capacity anywhere.
-What are memory speed (800MHz PC6400), pins, channels, latency and all that. I feel like I'm blind trying to compare different types of RAM.
-The memory socket is DIMM while my computer has DIMMS, and I'm not really sure if that matters.
-Can I use DDR3 RAM?
I would really appreciate it if you guys can give me some advice on types, brand, price, or anything about buying RAM. I probably sound like an overly cautious newbie but I don't really want to waste $100 right now, lol. :D Thanks for helping!
