Just when you thought political correctness cannot get any more stupid and insane...
Now even classics such as Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn are not immune to the axe of moral panic:
As of 2011, new editions of Huckleberry printed in America will be obligated to replace ALL uses of the word "nigger" in favor of the euphemism of "slave."
The justification? "It will be "unteachable" to Eighth Graders otherwise in literature class", in spite of the fact that the average 13 - 14 year old are exposed to the use of this word and worse on a daily basis through rap music.
Mr Twain, in the original edition, deliberately wrote a prologue explicitly expressing his sentiment of not endorsing racism towards African Americans through the honest portrayal of using "nigger" in his narrative, but rather to condemn the racism and ignorance of those who do.
A man truly ahead of his times, Mr Twain was.
And now, his sincerity is rendered all for naught for the paranoia of an easily offended and angered moral right.
Political correctness has gone mad indeed. :(
