I will attempt to get a photo of my computer screen when I am able. But for now, I'll attempt to explain my case in detail.
This problem has been prevelant since Christmas Eve, and I've had a couple of my computer friends tell me of what's wrong. It was only till now did I think of asking some of your guys' opinions and thoughts on the matter. When using my computer (80% of the time while playing games) my screen sometimes freezes, with an unusual checker-board like pattern of... "sparkling" colors, for lack of a better phrase. After a few seconds of staying on this frozen screen with the pattern like this, my computer screen goes blank and I end up having to restart. What irks me, is how subsequently after an incident like this happens, is that when I restart the computer, my screen gets the same pattern again when my computer is starting to boot up. As soon as I get to the login page, then it goes blank again. I usually have to wait several hours before I can get back to my computer and have it in somewhat working order.
The number of times this has happened, and the time between these incidents is rather random. Sometimes it's five minutes after I login, though that was when this was all starting to happen. This incident happened to me today, and my computer was working fine for about a week and a half prior. Mostly, this happens when I'm playing any game on the computer (although, during said week and a half period, I still continued to play normally without incident). I almost always don't have this problem outside of a game, but it happens occasionally when running non-related applications. So, might I ask... what's wrong?
The most common finds I get whenever I try to look up this problem, is that my graphics card is faulty, I have bad video RAM, or there's a problem with the monitor itself. The graphics card problem is the most common I find. If it helps, my computer has an ATI Radeon HD 4670 video card... A 2008 model, I believe.
You'll also have to excuse me should you require any other specifications on my computer, it's not working at the moment, and I'm not even typing on it right now. I'll get to that as soon as I can...
I have a somewhat decent idea on how to resolve this problem, but I'd feel a tad more comfortable hearing anything you guys might have to offer. Thank you.
